Support Your Child-Parent Relationship in Three Steps

Make Connecting With Your Child Simple and Joyful

In a recent blog, I talked about how important it is to prioritize building connections with your children and creating habits to show up every day with intention. I shared two simple ways I bond with my kids. They only take a few minutes but truly help shape the meaningful relationships we have and support my children in feeling happy and loved. Head over to that blog if you’re looking for more insights!

As for today? I’ve got another simple, effective way you can connect with your kids.

It’s uplifting, fun, and easy-going. Because sometimes, especially on the days it feels like you’re just trying to survive the chaos of life, connecting with your kids needs to be as simple and as fun as a minute of pure silliness and joy.

Three Energizing Steps to Connect With Your Child

Let’s focus on a simple, three-step routine that can transform your connection with your child in just a few minutes. I’ll walk you through why each step works and how it can make a real difference in your relationship with your kids.

My simple, three-step family routine to bond with my kids

**Step 1 Jumping for Joy **

    How to do it

Jump up and down with your child for 60 seconds. Yep, that’s it for the first step.

Here are a few fun ideas: start your morning, or any time when emotions are rising and things could get chaotic, by jumping up and down together for 60 seconds together. It might sound a bit silly at first, but it’s such a great way to shake off the heaviness of things like a slow morning or a tough day. And moving your body together in this way, even for a brief moment, often brings in laughter, and laughter is a powerful connector.

    Why it works

Have you ever noticed how just a bit of physical activity can change your mood? That’s because when we move, our bodies release endorphins, those feel-good chemicals that make us feel lighter and happier. This isn’t just great for adults; kids experience the same boost.

    Step 2 Affirmations

    How to do it

After jumping, take a moment to ground yourselves. Stand face to face, place your hands over your hearts, look into each other’s eyes, and say, “I am beautiful. I am loved. I am powerful.” These words aren’t just messages to each other; they’re reminders of your worth.

    Why it works

Words have power more than we often realize. So, when you and your child say affirmations together, you’re doing more than just speaking words aloud; you’re believing in them. Affirmations support self-esteem and a positive mindset. They also create a strong emotional connection between you and your kids.

    **Step 3 Celebrate **

    How to do it

After you finish your affirmations, seal it with a high five or a hug. It’s a celebration of having shared a special moment together. It says, “We did it! We’re in this together.” It’s these consistent, caring gestures that build trust and connection between you and your child.

    Why it works

Touch is a language of its own, capable of conveying support and love instantly. A simple hug or a high five releases oxytocin, known as the “cuddle hormone.” This enhances a sense of trust and attachment between you and your child and can even do things like boost confidence, reduce stress, and teach empathy.

    Why Try These Simple Steps?

Every parent wants to build a lasting bond with their child, and more times than not, the simplest actions are the most powerful. All it takes is a quick routine that you can turn to that gives you and your child a burst of joy and closeness that’ll last far beyond the few minutes it took to make it happen.

I hope you try this routine when you’re looking for a way to connect with your child. You might just find that these moments become the parts of your day that you all look forward to the most. You’ve got this, and I believe in you.
