Reintroducing the Happy Life System Peacetime Pillar

*Before you dig into today, be sure to check out the first blog in this series, where I introduce the foundations of the ****Peacetime Pillar ****and more practices you can start using today to create a peaceful, happy home. *

Imagine waking up each day to a home filled with calm, where both you and your children move through your days with ease. No arguing, no slamming doors, no snide remarks mumbled under someone’s breath, no chaos just peace and understanding throughout the day. Sounds idyllic, right? But how do we get there?

I’ve often heard from parents, “How do I create a home where everyone feels calm and balanced? Or even a home where everyone is just kind to each other!” And something I always ask them is how they deal with their own emotions and their children’s emotions. Because harmony in your home doesn’t mean those big feelings like anger, sadness, and disappointment don’t exist, but instead, it means you’ve created a foundation where emotional well-being is prioritized and where both you and your children feel seen, heard, and understood, no matter what the emotion.

The Happy Life System is designed to be your blueprint for this transformation to the life you want as a parent. The Peacetime Pillar, in particular, is your guide to moving from chaos to harmony. If you want your family to live with intention and cultivate daily habits that create space for yourself and your family, I’ve got you.

When You Feel All the Feels, You’ll Find Harmony

One of the biggest gaps I see in parenting is not taking the extra step to explain things to our children, especially when it comes to emotions. Too often, we say "it's okay" or try to brush past the feelings. But living in harmony means:

    • Honoring negative emotions

    • Having tools to process them

    • Moving to the other side to a place of peace

This applies to you as a parent and as a mentor to help your child do the same.

I realized early on that to parent effectively, I needed to be in touch with my own emotions and live with intention. And it didn’t happen overnight. I didn’t suddenly wake up one morning and move about my day in the same way I do now. I had to put a metaphorical toolbox on my floor and begin filling it up with tools for myself. And then I started to turn around and show my kids how they could have their own set of tools, too.

Life’s not perfect, and it never will be, and it’s not supposed to be. So if I’m having a shit day, or my kids seem to be bickering at each other suddenly, or I feel on edge, these are three practices I have in place that bring me back to harmony. They are the ones I come back to time and time again and ones that my family uses too.

    1. Writing Words of Gratitude

When you intentionally write down words of gratitude, you move to a grateful state. This shift in perspective helps center your mind and body. For me, I always journal and write down what I’m grateful for every morning. It’s such a powerful part of my morning routine. When my kids were younger, I’d have them draw pictures of things they were grateful for. Focusing on gratitude helps us navigate difficult times by reminding us of the positive things in our world.

    2. Creating a Space of Peace

Clutter and chaos make it hard to live in harmony. When we align our environment with our intention and joy, we feel surrounded by positive energy. Think about how you feel walking into a cluttered room versus one that is tidy and organized. It’s a daily practice to be mindful of what’s in your home. Involve your kids by asking, “How can you make sure your room feels peaceful?” or “How can we help our house feel calm and enjoyable to sit in and play in?”

    3. Releasing Emotions Through Art

This is especially effective for younger children. Kids often struggle to verbalize their emotions. Drawing how they feel is a great release. It doesn’t dismiss their feelings it shows them how to express and process them. One activity I did with my kids was drawing a rainbow. They’d show how they felt on one side and how they wanted to feel on the other, then we’d talk about how to move to the other side of that rainbow.

Your Roadmap to Peace: Embracing Emotional Well-being

It’s incredibly important to support your feelings and your children’s feelings. By having practices in place like the three I shared today, we are honoring our emotions and teaching our kids how to process their own emotions and return to a balanced state.

Remember, no negative feeling is forever. There are healthy ways to express our feelings and put them out into the world. We don’t have to stuff down negative feelings to make others feel at ease and we shouldn’t ask our children to do that either. We can show up with these feelings, process them, and return to a place of harmony and balance.

We are here to grow, feel, elevate and learn every single day of our lives. You’ve got this and I believe in you.
