How to Prioritize Your Family’s Health Without Losing Your Mind
Here’s Why I Focus on Vitamins, Eye Care, and Rest for My Family
Beyond Food Nourishment for a Healthy Life
Is it just me or did we recently connect about how important it is to involve your kids in discussions about food and its impact on their growth and health?
Ahh yes, we did.
In the first **Body Pillar **blog, I covered some nutrition tips and strategies to help your children make healthy food choices (without bribery or sneaking vegetables into dessert recipes). And if you haven’t checked that out yet, you’ll want to it’s packed with helpful information from the **Happy Life System **that simplifies how to support your kids in having an everyday healthy lifestyle with ease.
And today, I want to share more with you about how I prioritize a few other essential things for myself and my family. We’re talking:
Vitamins
Technology breaks
Rest
These three elements are crucial parts of the Body Pillar in the Happy Life System, and they play a big role in our overall well-being. Once I started prioritizing these three things in our daily routine, I stopped focusing on health worries and started feeling at ease with our family’s wellness.
Are you ready to give your kids the tools they need to thrive in every aspect of their lives just by adding a few habits that are invaluable for a healthy lifestyle? Let’s go!
Vitamins, Eyes, and Rest Oh My!
Think about this: Nourishment goes beyond just food. If you want to support your family to feel as empowered and healthy as possible, there are more ways to do that than just filling up your plate with good stuff (although, believe me, that’s a great place to start!).
Here are 3 of my go-to ways to boost health and wellness for myself and my kids:
- The Power of Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins and minerals are essential for keeping our bodies healthy and strong. They support everything from:
Bone health
Immune function
Mood regulation.
Take Vitamin D, for example. It’s a powerhouse that helps our bones stay strong, boosts our immune system, and even improves our mood.
And when you’re talking to your kids about taking vitamins, like Vitamin D, take the extra steps to explain the benefits. Make it fun and engaging! You can say something like, “Taking Vitamin D helps you have strong bones and gives you superpowers like a better mood and more energy. Isn’t that amazing?” By turning these facts into something exciting, you’re more likely to capture their interest and make them eager to take their vitamins.
- Protecting and Honoring Your Eyes
Next, let's talk about eye health. With all the screen time kids get these days, it's so important to protect their eyes and make sure they get enough rest from all that artificial light.
Studies have shown that blue light from screens can be particularly harmful, especially for kids whose eyes are still developing. Too much screen time can cause:
Eye fatigue
Dry, irritated eyes
Nearsightedness
Disruption in sleep
Giving our eyes a break from screens is essential. Turn it into a fun activity by encouraging your kids to go outside and enjoy natural light. Say something like, “Let’s take a break and go outside to see the trees and flowers. It’s like spa time for our eyes!” This not only helps their eyes but also gives them a chance to connect with nature.
- Rest is Best
Rest is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle and helps to make sure everyone in the family feels rejuvenated and at their best. By prioritizing rest, this gives your brain, body, and heart the time they need to recharge.
Create a fun and relaxing rest routine with your kids. Try having a 5-minute “rest ceremony”. Say something like, “Let’s have a 5-minute rest ceremony. Grab your cuddliest pillow and blanket, and let’s recharge our bodies!” This not only helps your kids rest, but also teaches them the importance of taking breaks and making it fun. And as a parent, you bet you should join in with them when you can. Rest is just as important for you, too.
Well-Being Beyond the Plate
Feeling our best is so important. And in today’s world, prioritizing things like getting all the vitamins we need, taking a break from technology, and resting can be hard for ourselves as parents, nevermind for our kids.
That’s why it’s so important to remember wellness goes beyond the food we eat. Nourishment and self-care have positive impacts on our families and it’s up to us as parents to include our children in these intentional living practices and show them the power of self-love and making healthy choices.
Are you with me? Today is the day you start taking small steps for big changes in your life. You’ve got this.
