Real Life, Happy Parenting Tips From a Mom of Four

Do You Want to Be a Happy Parent?

If you were to ask any of my four kids how they feel about having structure in our home, I promise you they’d say something along the lines of it helps them feel:

    • Empowered

    • Confident

    • Supported

    • Safe

And where does this structure come from? Well, when I became a mom at a young age, I knew I wanted to create a home that was filled with love and happiness. And when our family kept growing (my four kids are now ranging from 12-22, where does the time even go?!?!), it was clear we couldn’t just wing it every day and hope for the best. I wanted meaningful ways to build healthy habits that would make our home a happy place, which is where the Happy Life System came in.

When I created this system, I knew I needed a foundation in place to help me be a happier person, raise happy children, and move away from the chaos and overwhelm that often comes with raising a family.

You see, I didn’t want to just be happy sometimes. I wanted to be happy all the time.

And after researching, reading, and listening to all the things about parenting, I realized there really wasn’t anything out in the world that would truly help me parent my children and build a happy family life in the way I was looking for. I didn’t want to have to flip to page 210 in a parenting book in the middle of the grocery store when my kid was having a meltdown. I wanted to be able to have systems in place and an awareness of how to show up authentically in those moments, the high and the low, for my children and myself.

So, I took all the knowledge I had and built the Happy Life System. This system is a blueprint to help you build strong relationships with your children. It’s not the best practices of parenting in a manual it’s the what, the how, the why to being a happy parent.

If this sounds like something you’ve been dreaming of, then welcome, welcome, welcome. I’m so happy you’re here. And today, I’m sharing four questions that make a huge difference in bringing happiness into your home. These questions will help you:

     Slow down

     Connect with your children

 Become more intentional with how you go about your days

    Let’s do this!

Four Questions That Build a Happy Home

The questions I’m sharing below are ones that I make sure to ask my kids all the time. This is a great place to begin to structure your mornings and start your day off with positivity. The happiest people I know make time to connect with the ones they love and build morning habits this combines both for you and will make a big difference for your family.

Here’s how we make it work:

Four questions to start asking your kids to build a happy home life

    • What is our plan when we wake up every morning?

Check in, build a routine, prioritize happiness. Have  a  plan! Think about the things that need to happen, like showering, getting ready, taking pets outside, but also make sure you include ways to start your day off with mindfulness, gratitude, and taking time to do things you love. This could be journaling, playing some great music, standing in the natural light outside, getting in some physical activity. Talk about what makes you happy, what makes your kids happy, and lean into that.

    • How much time do we need to make sure we accomplish all our goals?

Whatever you and your child talked about in step one, think about how much time you need to make this happen. Have a conversation about the timing of how you want your day to begin to get everything accomplished that you want to. And let them have some ownership over this process.

    • How can I support you in every way?

This question can, of course, push beyond a morning plan. To build a happy life, your kids

need your support. Check in with them and ask this question often. What do they need

from you? Chances are, they’ll say some pretty incredible things and probably some silly

things, too. (I need a hug from you awesome, yes! I need candy for breakfast well, not

so much.) Asking this question shows you’re there for your kids and giving them space

to share and be heard. It’s powerful and will open up so many doors for happiness in

    your home.

    • How do you want to celebrate when we follow our plan every day?

Once you make a plan and follow it, acknowledge and enjoy it! You’ve got to celebrate!

Because when you do, it helps rewire your brain to not just feel good in the moment but

also associate these actions with positive feelings. So, decide on what that celebration

will look like together. High five, dance for a few extra minutes to your favorite playlist

together, plan a special breakfast to make, whatever feels right. But give yourselves

    credit for showing up.

Building a happy home can start with these four questions. I promise you can’t go wrong with taking time to connect with your kids. You’ve got this, and I believe in you every step of the way.
